Ohio Hair Loss Treatment Center Offers Range of Options

When it comes to hair loss treatments, Hairline "has something for everybody" and a high level of client service.

“Our number one priority is to understand what the customer’s goal is and to help them achieve that goal.”
So says Rob Hoffman, owner of Hairline Replacement and Transplant Clinic, one of the most successful hair replacement businesses in Ohio. Rob has been involved with Hairline, which has clinics in Akron and Cleveland, since 1985.
A high-end hair replacement business is born ...
“I started out as a client,” he says, explaining that one day he was on a business errand to a car dealership with a female co-worker. As they were waiting for paperwork to get sorted out, they walked around the showroom and his co-worker stopped to admire a Corvette convertible and mentioned how she’d really like to have one like it. Rob replied that he really wasn’t a fan of Corvettes.
“Well, this salesman overheard what we were saying,” Rob says, “and he came over to me and said, ‘Hey, come on, Dad, why don't you get this car for her?’" Rob was 32 years old at the time, and his co-worker was 29.
“That just about killed me,” Rob said. He’d been balding since he was about 25 years old, but being mistaken for the father of a woman who was only 3 years his junior was too much.
And so Rob paid a visit to what was then called Tony’s Headquarters and soon learned what a difference a good hair replacement system could make. He stayed solely a client for about 10 years until the day he finally acquiesced to the pleas of Tony, then the owner of the establishment, and came in to help out on a part-time basis. Part time eventually became full time, and that led, in 2001, to Rob buying the business from Tony (although Tony still continues to offer his services a couple of days a week).
Hairline makes it a priority to stay on top of hair loss treatment developments
“It’s important to know that we have always been at the forefront of technology ever since 1965, when Tony opened his first shop,” Rob says. “Tony studied with Joseph of New York, who was a stylist to the stars in the 1960s, and he also studied in Paris and Italy. In 1966, he opened Tony’s Gentlemen’s Choice, which was the first men’s hairstyling salon in northeast Ohio. And Tony was way ahead in the field of hair replacement, getting interested in it early on; finally in 1992, he changed the focus totally to hair replacement. We were the first in Ohio to offer hair transplants. We were in the original minoxidil study. We’re the only clinic in Ohio to offer Proxiphen. We were the first to offer FUE [follicular unit extraction] transplants in Ohio. And we’re very excited that we’ll soon be launching a brand-new product of our own that thickens new hair non-surgically; it bonds to hair and rises, like bread dough, adding 30-50 percent additional density.”
Hairline has a full range of services, offering “something for everybody,” Rob states. “What’s most important, of course, is finding out what people want, letting them know what we can offer, and then coming up with the solution that works best for them, staying in their budget and in their time frame. But we offer laser treatments, prescription medicines, non-surgical replacement, FUE, FUG [follicular unit grafting], chemotherapy wigs, wigs for kids. Our doctor is very knowledgeable about all of the prescribed medications, and we offer the whole gamut, including off-label uses when appropriate.”
Hairline’s “Free Wigs for Kids” started several years ago when one child needed a wig because of her chemotherapy treatments. When Rob saw how much stress and tension her parents were operating under, and how it was possible to relieve them of some of that tension by donating the wig to them, he gladly did so. “Now we have a relationship with Children’s Hospital in Akron and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland,” Rob says, “and they’ll send kids to us who we’re happy to help. We figure that the community we work in has supported us for 47 years; this is something we can do to give back to the community.”
Customer satisfaction is key at Hairline
Serving the customer is crucial to Hairline. “By the time people come to see us, they’re usually pretty distressed,” he says. “They’ve been thinking about it for a long time, but usually something happens that causes them to seek help at that moment. So it’s very important they understand that we know what they’re talking about. Once they know that we know what they mean, they become comfortable and are willing to trust us and let us work with them.”
There are two things that Rob wants potential clients to know about Hairline: “First, we are always on the cutting edge of technology, and second, everyone who comes here has my personal guarantee of satisfaction. (There’s something to be said about having the owner on-site!)”
“I want clients to be satisfied with the way we've made them look,” Rob says in summing up. “But what I really want is for them to just feel like they’re part of our family and really look forward to coming in -- which most of them do. And that’s because of our really terrific staff; you can’t get better people than we have.”
