“When you’ve been around since 1975, since the advent of hair restoration and hair loss treatment, and have over 13,000 square feet of treatment space, private service rooms and surgical suites, you are the hair loss specialist!” exclaims Lisa Zimmerman, owner and president of National Hair Centers. “Back in 1975, my dad was suffering from hair loss himself and was looking for hair-restoration services. One of the companies he was investigating for his own personal male pattern baldness offered him a sales job doing home consultations for them, and that’s how he got started in this business. He wore the hair and sold it too.” Mr. Zimmerman moved to Phoenix and founded National Hair Centers in 1975, and daughter Lisa came into the business right out of high school, in 1977. “My dad retired in the year 2000, and I took over with everything I had learned from him. I use my dad’s philosophy of customer service and a good work ethic, and that’s why our customers come back again and again and refer us over and over,” she says. Zimmerman explains that back when National Hair Centers was started, the business revolved around men’s hair loss 100 percent of the time. “This business just wasn’t geared toward women in 1975, but now the new clientele for non-surgical hair replacement and hair loss treatment is about 70 percent women. It’s not that they are experiencing more hair loss now; it’s that they are talking about it now more openly and looking for education and alternatives. We see a large number of women looking for chemo and medically necessary wigs, women with alopecia areata or alopecia universalis, and women experiencing female pattern baldness and diffuse thinning that they want to correct,” she said. “We specialize in every type of hair loss treatment and hair loss product and always have. We’ve been doing transplants for over 30 years and laser hair therapy for over 10 years. We’ve been in the forefront of it all for a very long time, and all employees take pride in their technical skills and knowledge.”

With more than 30 employees and 13,000 square feet of space, National Hair Centers boasts a private surgery suite with three operating rooms and a full-time board-certified hair transplant surgeon, three separate waiting rooms (one for men, one for women and one for new clients), and all private consultation and styling rooms. It provides free, private consultations. “Everything we do here respects the privacy of our customers, so each consultation is also private and so are the styling rooms,” explains Zimmerman. In addition to having high-quality standards, staff regularly participate in continuing professional education programs, including seminars, training classes and certification programs. “We are particularly proud to be recognized among the top 5 percent of hair restoration centers nationwide,” she adds.
