Celebrities and Hair Loss

Oftentimes we look to celebrities with hair loss to not only entertain us, but to offer us hope.

Our culture is fascinated by celebrities.  Why?  If we knew the answer, we might not be so fascinated with celebrity, but we are.

Even though we may deny it, whatever the reason for the fascination, celebrity exerts a force that demands our time and attention.  It seems many of us, deep down inside, has a yearning to know all there is about someone famous:  We want to know:  What do they eat?  Who do they sleep with? What do they wear?

And let’s not forget: Is that hair their real hair?

On one level, celebrities are an extension of our dreams, our fantasies and us.  So how a celebrity deals with hair loss is naturally of interest to us and many of us take some glee in discovering that a famous person is losing his hair, too.  The reasons for this may vary, but it’s there.

Many of us are gratified when we see a celebrity come clean about his hair loss, when he speaks candidly about his struggles or finds a way of coping with hair loss that works for him.  We’re relieved when an artist succeeds in spite of his hair loss.  This offers us hope that helps to break down society’s “bald wall.”
