In Hollywood, great movies are plenty but bald leading actors are scarce, with a few very notable exceptions.

Hollywood’s “Dream Factory” is dedicated to creating illusions, which is, after all, what a movie really is.  All you have to do is look at the portrayals of bald people in films to see how this is true.

On the big screen, people with hair loss are not always fairly represented.  Though things have changed from the days when any sign of a receding hairline was a dead-ender for a movie star, bald leading men are still relatively few, with some notable exceptions.

The power of film and TV programming is immense; a well-crafted movie - blending an array of artistic disciplines -  can bring enormous numbers of people together, stimulate conversation, highlight important issues and even change perceptions and attitudes.

Here we examine the power of film and focus on hair loss on the big screen and television, discussing different aspects of hair loss with the aim of elevating this discourse and contributing to a change in how hair loss is represented on the screen.

When we go to the movies, sometimes it’s to indulge in the illusion of how we want to be.  But other times, it’s to celebrate the reality of who we are.
