Nutrition Hair Loss

Health, Nutrition and Hair Loss

Since it's true that "we are what we eat", it's vital that we learn about nutrition.

What we do or do not eat can often be tied to hair loss. Malnourished or anorexic individuals often lose their hair because it is one way in which the human body responds to nutrient scarcity (i.e., your vital organs need food far more than your hair). And a poor diet in general can hasten the loss of hair in standard male pattern baldness as well as with certain types of hair loss experienced by women.

But on a broader level, good health is always a function of nutrition. And with good health, an individual will always present well – in their hair, their countenance and their body. Obesity may be the norm in a modern society, but the trim, athletic figure will always be the ideal.

But why is there such an extreme in modern life, the gulf between the very fit and very fat? The forces of commerce have taken us far away from what our bodies need for basic sustenance. Processed foods, those that make companies the most money and which are marketed so aggressively, remove thousands of nutrients that are otherwise present in unprocessed, whole foods.

Those who understand healthy nutrition know the difference. Those who don’t do not – and suffer the consequences.

Learn to eat with intelligence, consciously, and with purpose. That’s what this section is about – distilling the news and information on nutrition, and looking at it through the lens of hair loss. It is a skeptical lens at that, challenging simple claims and broad generalizations. All knowledge on nutrition needs to be placed in the broader context of what else we eat and the degree to which we lead a physical life.

There is no miracle diet to restore hair growth in most situations. But by providing your body with the nutrients that nature intended, you will optimize your hair health as well as the vitality of your skin, your muscles and your entire self.
